If you have ever played a round of golf, you most likely either used a golf cart or saw someone who was. Golf carts have become the conventional way to traverse a golf course for the last few decades.
Often times during a golf outing or club tournament, golfers are required to use a golf cart. This is meant to keep the play moving along and help keep the traffic on the fairways to a minimum, keeping the golf course in better shape. Many golfers still prefer to walk a course if they have the choice, but golf carts are often mandatory during peak hours of play during the days, especially on the weekends.
But golf carts are not just for golfers anymore. In many communities around the country, people will buy a golf cart just to get around the neighborhood. It is not uncommon in states like Florida to see golf cart dealers doing business with folks who have no desire to play the game of gold but who like the golf cart for its many attributes. In The Villages, a retirement community in Florida, there are over 70,000 people using an extensive golf cart trail system that stretches out to approximately 100 miles. They also allow carts on the streets, making it much safer and accessible for residents who don’t have cars anymore or who prefer the ease of a golf cart. The top speeds typically will not exceed 15 to 25 miles per hour so they are easier to handle than a small car.
When it comes to the cost of a golf cart, the pricing can range from roughly $3,000 to $30,000 for the luxury model carts. When the weather is nice for most of the year and all of the action in your community is relatively close by, golf carts make all kinds of sense. They are stable, reliable, and very cost effective.
Many cart models are electric, with a battery that will have a charge life of anywhere from two to three days, depending on how often you use it. This is less than a single tank of gasoline, but very much more environmentally friendly. All you have to do with your golf cart battery is plug it in overnight and you are set for your errands and trips the next day. Most batteries charge quickly and are very durable.
Golf carts are becoming the wave of the future as technology continues to catch up with our dreams of living longer and still being able to get from one place to another in comfort and with ease. And if you do play golf, then you already know how much more quickly you can get in a round of your favorite game. What might take you five hours to walk can now take you three and a half, provided you don’t hit too many balls in the drink.
