Furniture. It is a word that is rife with both excitement and stress. With furniture comes the couch. The recliners. The wooden table. The end table. There comes half a dozen different items that affect the quality and feeling of a home. It is a big task to find good furnishings. Which may be why Americans don’t try.
Some statistics:
- According to a U.S. Department of Commerce report, furniture and home furnishings store sales totaled $9.51 billion in June 2017, up from $9.27 billion in June 2016.
- The Freedonia Group forecasts household furnishings demand to reach $34.9 billion in 2021.
- According to a HomeGoods survey, only one out of five Americans (20%) feel happy with their home decor.
- Nearly half of Americans (47%) have not updated their home decor in the last five years.
That’s all that needs to be known about furniture. Americans are unhappy with their furniture. Four out of five according to that survey. But nearly half has not updated their furniture within the last five years. What does this mean, exactly? Surely, there must be other answers for this situation. It is a quandary.
People are unhappy, yet they don’t change.
There could be financial reasons. It is always costly to change out furniture. And many Americans are wanting furniture that is a little more ritzy than the others. Consider this statistic: In a recent survey, 64% of respondents said they would spend an extra 5% or more on ergonomic furniture and office design.
That’s a little pricey. But also Americans might be unsatisfied with the theme of their furniture and there are a few. As for style, Americans say the overall look of their homes is traditional (44%), followed by modern (22%), eclectic (13%), country (10%) and global (2%). But what is the real reason?
The world may never know. And that’s a pretty bad thing when it comes to consumer preferences. But there are many ways a person can get happy with their furniture, if they are willing or have the means to be able to change their furniture. There are options: the couch, the recliners, the table, the end table. Even more.
Take the issue with the couch. The couch has three main components: space, color, and feel. Those three combine to create the largest impact of the couch. Space determines the size of it in the room. If it’s a small room, a smaller couch would be in order. If it is a large room, ditto. Space is length, width, and height. All are important.
The color of a couch is important as well. But this goes along with the rest of the furniture. A person who wants all their furniture to sync up in terms of color may buy them all at the same time. The color can range the entire spectrum. It can be bright yellow or a cool brown. It depends on the preferences of the buyer.
The feel of a coach may be its most important factor. How comfortable is it? Will it support my body weight in a helpful fashion? Will it be comfortable to guests and family? There are many questions to answer. The best option is to sit in a couch before buying it. Then, you’ll be able to test the feel.
Finding high value furniture is important. High value means that the price and the amount you love the furniture match up. Value isn’t simply price. It is the amount you mentally and emotionally want a product. When considering high value, ask yourself, “Is this a good deal?” Think more than just the price.
High value means sitting down and taking stock. You may like a product that others don’t. It’s at a lesser price. This doesn’t mean it’s low value. It might be high value to you.
These are all considerations to make when buying a piece of furniture. Value, price, dimensions, color, and feel all play important roles in the buying process and whether you, the buyer, will be happy.
There are options for buying furniture. They include wood furniture, modern furniture, handcrafted furniture, custom furniture, custom bedroom furniture, custom wood furniture, and fine furniture. These can be found at their associated stores, such as the modern furniture stores for modern furniture. There are more options available as well.
